Bloody Merry

Happy Friday the 13th! I was riding a bunch of elevators today and marveling at the depth of our superstition surrounding the number 13 every time we skipped past the twelfth floor and arrived directly at the fourteenth. Our fear goes deep! In honor of this auspicious day (Holiday?) I'm presenting one of fashion's all time spookiest collections courtesy of John Galliano for Christian Dior. The show is from the Spring Couture season of 2006 and did blood and gore enough beautiful justice to raise the dead. Mix Galliano's French Revelution-inspired slasher couture with Pat McGrath's deadly makeup skills and you've got a frighteningly gorgeous presentation. Here's a look back:

The garments were slashed and torn and then beaded and lacquered in various shades of red, shiny materials to look blood soaked and spotted.

The best/goriest part was the deadly makeup, ingeniously designed and applied by McGrath to make the beautiful models look horrendous. Offset by red dipped pearl necklaces looking like wounds dripping with blood, the collection was a slashing success.

My personal favorite part, however, had to be Mr. Galliano's deadly serious exit walk. Armed with a rapier, he made it quite clear that he was responsible for all of the carnage.

What's Poppin'.

Lipstick is a glam girl's best friend and for Poppy King, it is also a way of life. Ms. King is the gorgeous force of nature behind the cosmetics line Lipstick Queen. She's been creating pout-perfecting products since she was 18 and fresh out of high school in Melbourne, Australia. That means she knows her stuff. The Coveted featured her recently, and I realized that she's a face I've seen around the City many times. Let me tell you, her lipstick is always on and always perfect. She's a fan of animal print and a stellar knitter. She is petite, pretty, and hard to miss, even in crowded New York.

Her makeup has possibly the prettiest packaging I've ever seen and I'd drop the bigger-than-usual-bucks for it in a heartbeat. If you want what she's got, you can get it here.

In the Red

Something about the fall makes me crave red accessories. Ruby, crimson, wine, and even the color of stop signs all catch my eye and I want them on my feet, around my waist, or decorating my ears. I think it is the richness of red that makes it the perfect fall color. I'm looking for some fall friendly red flats. Footwear by committee, gotta love it.
