Historical Hotness

Single subject Tumblrs have me at hello. This one had me at hot. The genius behind My Daguerreotype Boyfriend has begun combing the annals of historical photography for the men who melted the lens, even way back when. I think the site makes an awfully good case for you guys out there to dust off your cravats and join something that requires a uniform. I'm going to share a few photos with you, but you'll have to visit the site for your boyfriend's stats. Some are criminals, some are soldiers, some are imports...all are hot. (Except one or two with muttonchops...)

Fashioning The Yankees.

I've always heard the same thing from the men in my life when I've asked, "How come you are so obsessed with baseball?" They inevitably say to me, "Well, it's like you and fashion. I will never be obsessed with that, but you are. That's just the way it is." A little research has shown that not every Yankees fan is not obsessed with fashion. In fact, put pinstripes on a uniform, and some of the boys go gaga for it. I've found many devoted sites cataloging the uniform changes over the team's tenure, right down to the number of pinstripes on the legendary Bambino's shirt.

Die hard fans of the Bronx Bombers (and today who isn't?) can get authentic reproductions of the team's past wears. Want a copy of Joe DiMaggio's jersey from 1938? So, now I know that I'm not the only person with my eye on the uniforms during the games. I don't know if we should attribute that to my fashion-o-philia though, they really do make those boys' butts look good. I'm just saying...

New Feature: Common Goods

Flickr has a mission. No, it's not just to let you show the entire world your wedding day keg stand skills, or to give you a glimpse of the planet's cutest kitten, nor to let you display your (impressive yet scarily OCD) lip gloss collection, although it does an excellent job of all of those things. The Flickr folks want to let you in on the treasures of the world's public photography archives. Their pilot partnership program with the Library of Congress in 2006 spurred them into creating The Commons. It's grown into an initiative where they swung the doors open on public photography collections the globe over. You can peruse tons of copyright free photos on any subject for great history lessons. There's gold in the vaults and I'm mining for it. Let's see what we find...
