If You Were Doing This You'd Be Cool Already.

If Mr. Tommy Ton, fashion's photo blogger extraordinaire, snaps three photos of something at fashion week, I do believe it qualifies as a bonafide trend. In that case, you should definitely start wrapping the tail of your belt around itself. In fact, I think if you don't wrap your belt from this moment forward, I'm allowed--no obligated--to make fun of you.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Big Time.

Bloggers as front row denizens. The desk and the laptops were courtesy of D&G.

It's happened. The big fashion bloggers have invaded the front row. Garance Dore, Tommy Ton, Bryan Boy, and Scott Schuman displaced some of the regular top tier fashion folks in the prime spots lining the runway at the D&G show. With a desk and four laptops at the ready, the fab four were able to insta-blog the procession. This is a sea change. Yes, bloggers have increased their presence at Fashion Week, but to be stationed in the coveted front row while buyers and paper editorial directors are now seated second and third tier, is a significant shift. It's kind of exciting to be witnessing the emergence of a new era. I for one am proud of them, even though it seems that this placement ruffled some feathers.

The thing that I love about the bloggers who got the spots is that at least three of them are supremely talented. Their sites are photography-based and have given fashion fandom a fresh way to see the world they were coming to take for granted (sorry Baboosh!, even though I admire your style, it's just not my thing, ok?). I do find it interesting though that none of them actually blogged any immediate content during the show. I'm betting that's what D&G were hoping for.

Um, P.S., did you know that The Sartorialist and Garance Dore are a couple? Last I checked he was married with children. But, I guess that's changed:

Are Pigs Flying?

Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil Blog (see below post) caught Carine Roitfeld in a preppy "outfit".

WHA?! The queen of black, slick, sexiness is donning pinstripes and kahki? Carine, are you ok? Do you wanna talk about it? I know Anna's had quite a year, but it doesn't mean you've lost your edge of cool on her. Really, if you want to talk, I'm here for you. Just, don't go into any more Old Navy stores alone. Please.

Not What I Expected, But Perfect!

Jak and Jil Blog is required reading in this section of the Internet woods, but it's not like required reading from your high school days, you'll love it I promise. The blog is photographer Tommy Ton's visual journal of all the fashionable things he sees with his fantastic lensman's eye. His taste veers towards the quirky with high style, punky edges. In fact, the site has a darkness and a slickness that made me picture Tommy Ton as a sort of cybered-out, electro-goth kid. As is the case with most of my favorite streetstyle bloggers, I had never seen a pic of Tommy, but I thought for sure he'd be a pale, lanky, cooler-than-thou Euro kid decked out in head to toe black with silver stud embellishments. Well, I was wrong about everything except the studs...

Introducing Mr. Tommy Ton:



How cute is he? How approachable and trustworthy and non-fashiony does he look? That's meant in the highest praise ever. I love it. Yes, those are studded Christian Louboutin loafers on his feet, but there is no black, lanky, skinny, gothiness here. It's all heart, I can tell. He loves fashion and it shows. I so totally am in even more love with Jak and Jil Blog now. If you don't already follow it, you must. I insist.

Required Reading.

I've written about the Jak and Jil Blog before, but this time I must insist that reading it is a prerequisite for any friend of fashion who is also a friend of mine. I love the site because the photos are large. When it comes to eye candy (and maybe a few other things in life) I'm a size queen. The simple black and white surroundings of the site let the photos do the poppin' and the photos are divine; like sent from God through founder Tommy Ton's lenses. His sense of style, color, and fab are unparalleled, even in a blogosphere crammed with typing/snapping fashion heads. Check his flow:
